About Volunteering

There are many good reasons to volunteer - the most important one is because you want to!
 
You may wish to learn or develop new skills, look at a change of career, return to work or simply become more active. Whatever your reason, it's a good one - there are no bad reasons for giving time! Volunteering is anything you do that helps other people or the general community beyond your own family, so long as you do it because you choose to, and not for financial gain.

About the Volunteer Centre:

Harrogate Volunteer Centre can help you find a volunteering opportunity that is right for you. Anyone can volunteer - volunteers come in all shapes and sizes, from all backgrounds and from all age groups.

We work with over 250 different voluntary and community groups in the District who keep us updated with their latest volunteering opportunities. There is a huge variety of different opportunities including working with children, admin, the outdoors,  technology, older people, animals, music... the list is endless!
 
If you decide you want to volunteer then we will help you find a role to suit you based on your skills and interests, the time you have to give, and whereabouts in the District you'd like to volunteer.  We give you information on the kinds of roles that we think will suit you and then it's up to you to decide whether or not you'd like to proceed.

  • You make no commitment by talking to us.  We can tell you about 100s of different volunteering opportunities. 
  • You can talk to the Centre Manager in confidence, either in person, or on the phone, or by email
  • We will try to advise you on a role to suit your needs, wishes, abilities and experience
  • We can help you make contact with any local organisation that you’d like to offer time to
  • We offer ongoing support and advice about anything to do with your voluntary involvement
  • We don't charge or judge and we keep things confidential
